Audit Your Google Dependencies

Google accounts are deeply integrated into Android, Chrome, YouTube, Drive, Photos, Maps, and more. List every Google service you use and find alternatives before deleting.

Download All Your Data

Use Google Takeout (takeout.google.com) to export everything: emails, photos, drive files, calendar, contacts, YouTube history. Choose zip format and request all data. This can take days.

Migrate Critical Services

Move email to Proton Mail, photos to iCloud or local storage, files to a self-hosted solution or Proton Drive, and calendar to Proton Calendar. Update all accounts using your Gmail address.

Update Account Recovery

Change your email address on every account that uses Gmail for login or recovery. Check banking, social media, government services, and subscriptions. This is the most time-consuming step.

De-Google Your Phone

If on Android, switch to iPhone or install a de-Googled Android ROM like GrapheneOS. Transfer app data and set up alternative app stores if staying on Android.

Delete the Account

Go to myaccount.google.com > Data & Privacy > Delete your Google Account. Review what will be deleted, check the confirmation boxes, and confirm. There's a brief recovery period.
