Our Verdict

Netlify deserves credit for popularizing the static-site-plus-serverless-functions model that now defines modern web deployment. The platform remains one of the best options for deploying static sites, single-page applications, and Jamstack projects with minimal configuration. The free tier is genuinely generous, offering 100GB of bandwidth and 300 build minutes per month, which is sufficient for most personal projects and small businesses. Branch deploys create automatic preview URLs for every pull request, and the split testing feature lets you run A/B tests at the infrastructure level without additional tooling. Netlify Functions provide a straightforward way to add backend logic without managing servers, and the form handling feature eliminates the need for a separate form service. However, Netlify has lost ground to Vercel in the framework-aware deployment space. Build times for larger projects can be frustratingly slow, and serverless function cold starts introduce latency that is noticeable in user-facing applications. The plugin ecosystem, while functional, has not grown at the pace many hoped. The pricing structure presents a sharp cliff between the free tier and the Pro plan, which can catch growing projects off guard. For teams heavily invested in Next.js, Vercel's tighter integration may be more compelling. But for projects using Astro, Hugo, Eleventy, or other static-site generators, Netlify remains an excellent and battle-tested deployment platform. The company's commitment to open web standards and its developer advocacy continue to make it a respected player in the deployment ecosystem.
