How to Switch from Chrome to Brave Browser

Install Brave

Download Brave from brave.com. It installs alongside Chrome so you can transition gradually. Brave is Chromium-based, so it feels identical in daily use.

Import Everything from Chrome

On first launch, import bookmarks, passwords, history, extensions, and settings from Chrome. Brave handles this automatically. Verify your bookmarks and saved passwords transferred.

Set Brave as Default Browser

Go to Brave Settings > Get Started > Default Browser. Set Brave as your system default so all links open in Brave instead of Chrome.

Configure Privacy Shields

Brave Shields block ads and trackers by default. Click the shield icon on any page to customize. Set 'Aggressive' for maximum blocking, or adjust per-site if something breaks.

Replace Google Defaults

Change the default search engine to Brave Search or DuckDuckGo in Settings > Search Engine. Your Chrome extensions from the Chrome Web Store work in Brave without changes.

Uninstall Chrome

After a week of daily Brave use, uninstall Chrome. This removes Google's always-running background processes and telemetry from your system.
